Instead of a playlist of songs that are guilty pleasures, I’ve created one ABOUT them. Beer, hot dogs, chocolate, and even DC comics are the subjects of these tunes.

Jump start your weekend with this pre-party mix that will prep you for a night out. Hopefully, a song or two on this playlist will be new to you or something you haven’t heard in awhile. Rockabilly emerged in the mid-1950’s with such greats as Elvis Presley and Carl Perkins, and is one of the earliest forms of rock-n-roll. Musically, the style has its roots in Rhythm & Blues and Country, and, semantically, the term is derived from “Rock” and “Hillbilly”. Grease back your pompadour, tune up your jalopy, eat a hot dog– do whatever you need to do, cuz here’s some rockin’ rockabilly to liven up your day.

Imagine cowboy hipsters in the 1930’s taking all they loved about country music and giving it a hot, swingin’, jazzy edge; put the two together and you get the genre known as Western Swing.
