Imagine cowboy hipsters in the 1930’s taking all they loved about country music and giving it a hot, swingin’, jazzy edge; put the two together and you get the genre known as Western Swing. To get you going, we have some great tracks from artists such as Bob Wills (pictured). Wills, with his band the Texas Playboys, were at the forefront of the movement.

With the announcement of Wilco’s upcoming album release this June, the blogs and music news sites are going crazy for the baddest American rock band in the world. Since we can’t get enough of them either, we saw it as a good opportunity to check in on their legacy (Son Volt, Uncle Tupelo, Golden Smog), sonic connections (Ryan Adams, Sparklehorse, Lambchop) and other players that fit the great American sound of Wilco.
